If you’ve had your Dexa Scan, you should know what your percent body fat is but may not be sure what is ideal for your age, gender, and activity level.
Body fat may increase slightly with age. But this can be minimized and possibly avoided through fitness and good nutrition.
“Obesity” is an abnormal accumulation of body fat and is associated with increased risk of illness, disability, and death.
But keep in mind…
In regards to body fat, less is not always better.
Dropping below healthy levels can cause:
- decreased brain function
- muscle loss / weakness
- decreased metabolism
- low body temperature
- vitamin A,D, E, K deficiencies
- gastrointestinal irregularities
- decreased immune system, increased susceptibility to disease
