Why high plank?

Our July Challenge features a “high” plank (see #1 below) vs.  a “low” plank (see #2 below)

apo

When the plank is performed on the hands vs. the elbows, the triceps and shoulder muscles are more activated so we can develop and improve shoulder strength and stabilization as well as core strength and stability. You may also feel discomfort in the wrists because your wrist mobility and stability is being challenged. Hopefully the challenge will also improve the bone density well as mobility in your wrist and forearms. If you have a wrist injury try using dumbbells to allow the wrists to be in a more neutral position.
